retainers

  • Wear your retainers every night, until the doctor instructs otherwise.
  • Take your retainers out and always put them in their case! Put the case in a safe place, such as a high shelf, drawer or cabinet and leave open to air dry.
  • Clean retainers each morning after taking them out, with a toothbrush and mouthwash or hand soap. Brush inside and outside. Rinse well with cool water (Make sure not to use hot water). Brushing retainers removes the plaque, and eliminates odors.
  • Efferdent® or other orthodontic appliance cleaners can be used occasinally but do not take the place of brushing. Do not store them in water, mouthwash, or denture cleaner. This will discolor the material and affect the fit.
  • When retainers are not in your mouth they should ALWAYS be in a protective retainer case. Pets love to chew on them!
  • Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
  • Retainers are breakable, so treat them with care. If retainers are lost or broken call us immediately.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about your retainers, or your retainers need adjusting, call us. Do not try to adjust them yourself.
  • Retainer replacement is expensive; with proper care they will last for years!
  • LIFETIME retention is the only way orthodontically treated teeth will remain stable.
